SACMI’s last two years have been characterised by two key developments. On the one hand, sales of the new SACMI H.E.R.E. (Human Expertise for Reactive Engineering) supervisor - the platform designed to implement monitoring, diagnostics and predictive maintenance services/solutions - have gone from strength to strength. On the other, the new governance model, involving far-reaching reorganisation of the various businesses (Ceramics, Metals, Closures&Containers, Beverage, Packaging&Chocolate, Quality&Process Control), has been completed. What's more, a Customer Service Division has been created to merge all the before/during/after-sales customer service skills already developed within the SACMI Global Network. This latest Division also makes use of new remote assistance devices featuring cutting-edge augmented reality solutions.

More specifically, a dedicated portal (SACMI S.P.A.C.E. - Sacmi Portal for After-sales and Customer service Excellence) has been set up to give customers access to an ‘ecosystem’ of after-sales services to maximise both plant performance and the value of investing in SACMI technology.

In parallel, the SACMI Group has revamped its Human Resources policy, with a focus on new professions in IoT (Internet of Things). This has involved the establishment of new partnerships with Universities and Research Centres and the development of an all-new HR portal (SACMI Careers) with a focus on in-company dissertations and post-graduate PhD projects in areas/departments characterised by high levels of innovation.

Alongside progressive implementation of 4.0 solutions and services across the entire plant engineering range, SACMI has also set up internal facilities dedicated to the development and diffusion of new smart industry enabling technologies. These include SACMI Innovation Lab 4.0, the SACMI laboratory that works in concert with the Research Centre and Academy 4.0. The Lab engages in numerous activities, ranging from research to the training of new professionals in the IoT field.

On the technology front, 2018 closed with the international Tecnargilla fair and the market launch of further innovation across all areas. For example, the Ceramics sector has - on the eve of SACMI's 100th anniversary - presented advanced 4.0 logistics systems (automated warehouses) and new Deep Digital solutions designed to explore the frontiers of digital decoration.

Similarly, the Beverage sector has - thanks to smooth coordination of all activities by Parma-based SACMI Beverage - seen the Group enhance its capacity to act as a sole plant engineering provider. In the closures sector, instead, decades of technological know-how and global leadership in the plastic cap compression press field have been used to develop revolutionary container (CBF) and single serve capsule (CCM multilayer) manufacturing solutions that have won immediate market approval; new lightweight capsule and preform systems have also been developed and customers can count on advanced consultancy services, which range from functional aspects to innovative design.

Lastly, the period 2017-2018 saw a continuation of SACMI's policy of strategic takeovers, with positive results stemming from the acquisition of EUROFILTER (environmental services), B&B (mill linings) and CMC (ceramic industry automation).

In short, SACMI is looking forward to celebrating a century of success as a global leader within all its business areas.
