Ceramic Industries Group continues to grow with Sacmi

New glazed porcelain tile plant started up successfully at Gryphon (South Africa)

Ceramic Industries Group, the biggest manufacturer of floor and wall tiles in South Africa, continues expansion in close alliance with Sacmi.

The start-up of the latest new factory of the Group, Gryphon, has now been successfully completed, the official inauguration taking place on 25th April.

This two-stage project includes two lines for the manufacture of glazed porcelain tiles in sizes up to 600x600 mm. Sacmi has supplied all of the main plant, starting from the grinding and spray drying department, which features an MMC138 continuous mill and an ATM180 spray dryer. For pressing and drying, the plant has two PH5000XL presses and a 5-tier ECP2850 multi-layer dryer. Firing is performed in a latest-generation EKO kiln: with a 2950 mm wide intake, this kiln features highly innovative technology for optimisation of production, energy saving and reduced environmental impact. The line also features systems that recover heat from the kiln and convey it to the spray drying area (where it is used on the new spray dryer).
