Ceramica del Pacifico conquers Central America

Sacmi technology employed in El Salvador to produce 200,000 m2 a month

An 8.5 million dollar investment, an output capacity of 6,500 square metres a day: numbers that effectively sum up the new plant that Ceramica del Pacifico has built in El Salvador. This is the first plant of its kind to be installed in the country and only the fourth in all of Central America; it features plenty of Italian-made technology, with all its cutting-edge machines supplied by the Sacmi Group, advanced web-based fault prevention system included.

Founded in 1988 in El Salvador, Ceramica del Pacifico was originally an importer of ceramic articles for the internal market. Now, with this new plant – which came online at the end of January – the company has every single stage of the business located on the internal market, generating a series of positive effects, especially as regards price: “Thanks to the start-up of this plant”, stated Ceramica del Pacifico’s chairman, Alberto Cabrero, “we’ll be able to lower finished product”. That’s no small feat in a market like El Salvador’s where one million dollars’ worth of ceramic articles, most of which are imported from Brazil, are sold every month.

Ceramica del Pacifico aims to conquer not only the internal market but also intends to play a role as exporter to the entire Central American region. Output will be around 200,000 square metres a month, a third of the country’s overall requirement: “100,000 square metres will be earmarked for the internal market and 100,000 square metres”, continues Cabrero, “will be exported mainly to Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica”.

The plant, located in the town of Sacacoyo (La Libertad), will employ 70 people and as many again indirectly for the extraction and transport of raw materials.
