Continuous mills: liner test results

Higher output, greater strength, less energy

Sacmi’s grinding technical service has just completed tests on new rubber linings for continuous  mills. The aim of the study was to optimise the efficiency of continuous grinding by improving the slip refinement phase.
To this end Sacmi has designed a lining that consists of plates and lifters or, more simply, plates only, the shape of which enhances refining action via pressure and the attrition of the grinding media (silica or alumina). The principle results were increased productivity (final slip residue remaining equal), consequent reduction of absolute energy consumption, reduced grinding media consumption and unchanged duration of grinding media. These linings, which maintain the classifying action on the refining grinding media, are suitable for all types of bodies, especially those that require low residues.
This experience complements past studies which optimised the first chamber (or infeed zone) of the continuous mill: this is the zone where crushing of clays and shattering of the hard materials in the ceramic body needs to be carried out effectively.
Mainly designed for use in the second and third chambers of traditional mills, these linings can also be employed in the second chamber of classifying mills or those in which a second chamber is contemplated.
