Evolution and prospects of the ceramic industry

Sacmi-organised convention to take place at Eskisehir (Turkey) on 17th June

Cost containment and enhanced product quality: two goals that can converge. This is the slogan with which Sacmi will be presenting itself at the Anemon Hotel of Eskisehir, in Turkey, for a Group-organised convention on the evolution of the ceramic industry and the outlook in light of the latest technological innovations.

Participants will be presented with a report from the Ceramics&Tiles division examining not only recent technological developments in tile production, but also future trends that can already be identified on the basis of current market data. Each stage of the production process – the switch from discontinuous grinding to continuous modular grinding, from standard pressing to differentiated pressing – will be analysed and there will also be a close look at the evolution of ceramic bodies, especially with regard to porcelain tiles, both technical, and, above all, glazed.
Afterwards, it will be the Whiteware division’s turn to take the stand. From a production process viewpoint, this industry has changed enormously over the years – hence the title of the talk: “Modern sanitaryware production: new technologies aimed at increasing quality and reducing labour”. These are the duel goals of every company in the industry, and they are now within reach thanks to Sacmi’s wealth of skills and experience. A complete picture of how technology has evolved in the sanitaryware sector will be outlined; the speaker will place particular emphasis on “state of the art” NIV high pressure casting plants, robotized glazing machines made by Gaiotto Automation (both companies belong to the Sacmi Group) and the innovative combined casting and glazing of WCs - GLASTING technology – integrated on the AVE 40 high pressure casting system.

The Eskisehir convention also offers Sacmi a good opportunity to reinforce ties with the Turkish market. Turkey is an emerging economy offering many opportunities on both the production and consumption fronts. With this in mind the meeting will be closed by two key Turkish experts, first Professor Asaf Savas Akat, who will illustrate the effects of the global economic situation on the Turkish economy – especially as regards the construction industry – and then ceramic entrepreneur Nihat Yildirim, who will illustrate the production advantages of LOPREM resin (Sacmi patent), integrated in a technological package that allows optimisation of mechanised plaster cast benches.
