Efficiency and energy savings thanks to new Sacmi-developed firing technology

Sacmi is proud to present a revolutionary new approach to roof tile production, with advantages in terms of flexibility, energy savings, environmental impact and investment costs. The source of those excellent advantages is the innovative HRT production line - recently previewed at the last edition of Tecnargilla - which offers a sound alternative to traditional tunnel kiln technology.

Breaking away from trends in the roof tile industry that have, in recent years, focussed on the optimisation of traditional tunnel kilns and the introduction of kiln car loading/unloading robots, Sacmi now offers nothing less than a “technological revolution” that successfully overcomes the most critical aspects of the system and optimises production costs. New self-recovery EKO burners and a system of specially engineered refractory supports constitute the heart of this new on-roller HRT firing system with H-supports.

Outstanding firing technology has been combined with the Group’s experience in fast drying on multi-level roller systems: the result is a roof tile production line that allows producers to achieve outstanding levels of efficiency even on small plants. One of the most attractive features is the reduction of cycle times, just 3-4 hours for the drying phase and 4-5 hours for firing. In terms of output quality, the advantages of the HRT system include improved size tolerance and enhanced, more efficient colour control; there are also considerable benefits in terms of energy savings and environmental-friendliness: just 2.7 kg of CO2 per fired kg, with energy consumption dropping to just 560-580 kcal per kg of fired product and 860-900 kcal per kg of evaporated water.

Flexibility is also an essential feature and is ensured by rapid system start-up solutions and a design that reduces required line space by up to 40%. It should also be pointed out that the absence of kiln cars from the production cycle consequently eliminates the relative maintenance costs and the downtimes associated with support breakage. And, since foundation works are no longer required, installation is simpler and the plant can be assembled more quickly.
