Hi-tech ceramics: Sacmi arrives in India

Carborundum Universal Limited, India (CUMI) purchases new PH 2090 for the production of alumina slabs

Special ceramics with a very high-tech content indeed: this is the core business of Indian company Carborundum Universal Limited (CUMI), a leading player in  making advanced ceramics located at Hosur industrial district in the country’s south. Products such as these require cutting-edge partners, able to provide efficient, high-performance solutions.

Partners like Sacmi, which has just supplied CUMI with a PH 2090 hydraulic press from the 2000 series – extensively market-tested and widely appreciated among the international ceramic industry’s major players – for the production of 20x30 cm alumina slabs. A ‘difficult’ product requiring, on the one hand, a particularly sophisticated press filling system and, on the other, an equally refined methodology for ejection of the densely pressed material from the mould.

That’s why Sacmi has also supplied, in addition to the press itself, the entire ‘accessories pool’, from the powder filling system to the outside ‘electronic ejector’, indispensible for management of this type of output. Special slabs, then, that undergo, after pressing, an ultra-high temperature sintering process, making them just perfect for a vast range of applications from industrial to space applications.

CUMI’s latest investment decision has, then, reinforced an already solid industrial partnership that began some time ago. CUMI’s spray driers and continuous grinding mills are, in fact, also Made in Sacmi, as are other machines and equipment provided by the Group’s refractory division.
