Host Milano welcomes Sacmi's innovative coffee capsule manufacturing solution

This revolutionary solution provides the coffee sector with all the advantages of Sacmi compression technology, which is becoming ever-more popular in the beverage capsule manufacturing world.

Sacmi coffee capsule manufacturing technology will play a starring role at the 40th edition of Host Milano, the international hospitality fair that also focuses on the coffee&food sector. The innovative Sacmi solution - which intercepts the demands of the fast-growing coffee capsule market, now expanding at three times the average beverage industry rate - is a new application of the compression technology in which the Sacmi Group is world leader (with over 1700 systems installed worldwide).

Begun in 2014, the R&D project that led to this technology being applied in coffee capsule manufacturing has now developed into a solution that guarantees the lowest running costs in the industry. This has been achieved thanks to short cycle times, consumption containment and fully guaranteed process repeatability. A key contributor to this result is the fact that compression technology can be used to manage each cavity independently, allowing mould maintenance to be performed off-line and machine downtimes minimised.

In a class of its own, the Sacmi solution also allows for the manufacture of capsules not just in traditional PP but also in compostable materials or materials with enhanced aroma protection performance.

Against a TCO (total cost of ownership) some 10-15% lower than capsule manufacturing with injection technology, Sacmi provides this application for both closed systems and the ever-more popular compatible capsules. Sacmi also offers, through Sacmi Filling, a complete proposal for the development of capsules thermoformed with form-fill-seal technology.

Already a market winner, this innovative Sacmi solution is like no other and makes the most of all the undisputed advantages of compression technology, (already extensively tested in actual beverage capsule manufacturing). That said, Sacmi is still pushing ahead with continuous R&D into new solutions. These include multilayer compression moulding (i.e. capsules made up of multiple plastic layers, obtained via a one-step compression process, which provide extraordinary external agent barrier properties).

More specifically, visitors to Host Milano will have the opportunity to get a closer look at this technology in the Group display area (40 m2, Hall 22, stand n. D03), where an eye-catching videowall will screen detailed explanations of the proposed technical solutions. Sacmi staff will be on hand to illustrate all the advantages of the system, previously showcased at the recent Interpack fair in Düsseldorf with excellent feedback from visitors and public. A great visibility opportunity, then, for the Sacmi Group, which aims to make the very most of recent opportunities presented by the development of single serve products.
