Ideal Brique gets automated with Sacmi-Cosmec

This latest fired product unloading-handling plant, the largest ever supplied to Tunisia, aims to provide total process automation: from production, handling and packaging to storage and transport.

Sacmi Heavy Clay has won yet another strategically important order on the Tunisian market and this time it’s all about process automation. Ideal Brique, the country’s leading brick manufacturer, has, in fact, purchased a fully automated plant that includes an innovative automated cutting/stacking plant and a dual-line fired product unloading plant (one of the biggest ever seen in Tunisia) featuring automatic systems for the packaging and subsequent loading of completed brick packs onto trucks.

An integral part of a far-reaching factory renewal programme, this latest order for Ideal Brique includes, more specifically, an innovative complete pre-cut and cut line equipped with a dual unit for the deep-cutting of 6 pieces and new cutting systems that ensure maximum linearity and precision without any need for subsequent trimming; in other words, a line to manage and programme the dry product and a complete 6-head stacker. The currently installed robots, which will be employed on the existing production lines, have been fitted with new grippers to solve the current product handling and picking problems, while the four available fired product pack types (900x900, 1200x1200, 900x1200 and 1200x900, in both Algerian and Tunisian versions), are joined by three different floor blockwork pack configurations (vertical hollow, horizontal hollow, mixed pack).

The entire furnace – equipped with heavy fuel oil combustion systems supplied by Sacmi – has also been provided with new solutions such as the ground-level handling systems and conveyor belts and a furnace car pool which features cutting-edge refractory solutions designed to provide energy savings. Completing the picture, from a process automation standpoint, is the automatic bay stocking and truck loading system.

Beni Hassen’s company has always been extremely attentive to innovation and has now chosen an all-new automation technology that is a first for Tunisia. Their aim? To become a pivotal player in what is nothing less than a local heavy clay production process revolution. For Sacmi Heavy Clay – which develops and constructs such systems together with Cosmec, the Sacmi Group company that specialises in the design of automated brick handling solutions – this key order reinforces its market position and paves the way towards further, similar orders in the region.
