Large tiles, Keramia Axiou chooses Sacmi

Greek company installs a PH 2890 complete with “fast changing” dies

New investments for Greek ceramic firm Keramia Axiou, formerly Vitruvit. The end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008 saw the completion of  the start-up procedures for several key machines - supplied by Sacmi Imola - that will put the company in a position to raise quality markedly, especially as regards large tiles, for which market demand just keeps on rising.

More specifically, Keramia Axiou has given its pressing department a boost by purchasing a PH 2890, complete with dies made by Sacmi Molds & Dies, that employs FCD (fast changing die) technology and the very latest isostatic punches. With this new press, then, Keramia Axiou can now add 40 x 40 tiles to its range, which was previously limited to 33 x 33.

Innovative FCD technology also guarantees very fast changeover times thanks to sub-division of the component die parts into two groups, only one of which contains the “essential” tile moulding characteristics (in other words, only one group needs to be changed to achieve a size changeover, with clear advantages in terms of speed and efficiency). And that’s not all: Sacmi has also been chosen by this Greek company to upgrade its existing mill feed system by replacing it with an automatic raw material flow mechanism of tried-and-tested reliability.
