Sacmi presents a new technology

At Tecnargilla 2002 (1st - 5th October 2002) SACMI provided visitors with a sneak preview of its new Monolithos 3D technology. The result of over a year’s experimentation and protected by international patents, Monolithos 3D technology provides an innovative way to produce full body porcelain tiles – decorated directly on the press. The innovation consists of being able to produce highly realistic simulations of the patterns seen on natural stone (travertine, marble, granite…), simply by applying just one filling unit to the press. This is a sophisticated filling system, which, thanks to a series of electronically-controlled actuators governed by a PC with a highly versatile interface, allows powders to be deposited in the filler box with precision and then transferred without there being any alteration of the decorative pattern inside the die cavity. The system also includes a device that, by eliminating the negative effects of skimming, emphasises the decorative pattern in the press cavity directly; results are also excellent with products that do not require polishing or those with structured surfaces. Monolithos 3D gives tiles with full-body effects (i.e. effects throughout the full thickness of the tiles), especially recommended for products designed to imitate natural stone. The system is a versatile one, also allowing manufacturers to produce tiles with geometric effects (again, full body): these are especially appreciated in coordinated laying on extensive surface areas. Monolithos 3D can easily be installed on all lines with presses having an inter-column clearance of 1750 mm. This project highlights, once again, just how committed Sacmi is to innovative, technologically advanced solutions.
