NPE2003, Chicago IL, June 23 - 27, 2003

Thanks to a successful strategy of diversification SACMI Imola, the world’s leading producer of machines and complete plants for metal and plastic caps, is now a key player in the packaging industry. It operates in the beverage field as SACMI Labelling and SACMI Filling. With Gram Equipment (machines and complete plants for ice-cream production) and Carle & Montanari (chocolate production), both leaders in their respective fields, SACMI is also a big name in the food processing industry. Moreover, in the plastics field, the SACMI Group has, through its take-over of NEGRI BOSSI and the associated companies OIMA and BM BIRAGHI, become involved in the design, construction and marketing of plastic moulding and injection machines for the foodstuff industry. Thus-organised, the Group is now able to provide the plastics industry with made-to-measure solutions and will, therefore, be present at the coming edition of NPE 2003, to be held in Chicago from 23rd to 27th June. SACMI is, today, the only Group in the world capable of supplying the three main plastic moulding technologies: - SACMI Imola, leader in compression technology - NEGRI BOSSI with OIMA and BM BIRAGHI, the Italian injection leader - BENCO PACK for thermoforming [form-fill-seal]. SACMI shall be presenting some of its latest plastic forming machines at the fair. At NPE 2003, SACMI Imola shall, as regards compression technology, be presenting: an extremely fast 64-punch compression moulding machine (the CCM 002 model) that produces polypropylene caps with a diameter of 43 mm in a cycle time of just 3.8 seconds. a world first: a new machine - the TVC 031 - that can fold and slit the anti-tamper band at speeds of up to 1400 caps per minute. When it comes to complete systems for the production of plastic caps SACMI always takes into account the production requirements of each specific customer, and is thus able to suggest the most convenient solution, between compression or injection, that is best suited to the complexity of the cap and required output rates. This approach thus makes SACMI a key “specialist” in what is a highly complex, competitive industry: because where caps are involved, know-how, service and continuous development of production systems are essential. At NPE 2003, NEGRI BOSSI (with associated companies OIMA and BM BIRAGHI), a long-standing supplier of hydraulic machines, now has a comprehensive range of patented “full electric direct drive” models. Machine power ranges from 90 tons to 850 tons. This range is particularly appreciated by customers producing foodstuff containers as the use of hydraulic oil has been eliminated, thus providing a further guarantee for the final consumer. The ELMA 850 was recently presented at PLAST 2003 in Milan. Machines from both the “full electric – direct drive” series and the hydraulic series will be on show at the fair: - ELMA VE 90 (full electric and direct drive) - ELMA VE 160 (full electric and direct drive) - CANBIO V370 (hydraulic) - VECTOR V850 (hydraulic) Presses in the Elma line are characterised by high-speed injection and high injection pressure; the power available at the injection stage is about 50% - 75% greater than on standard full electric presses. From a construction viewpoint the ELMA presses feature several innovative mechanical solutions, some of which are patented, and a water-type cooling system for motors and electrical drive systems, which ensures electrical parts operate at low temperatures and also provides significant energy savings.
