New business opportunities beyond the Great Wall

Ceramics China gets under way. Masini (Sacmi Hong Kong): “Now is the time to invest”

The Sacmi Group is heading to China in force: the aim is to participate in “Ceramics China”, the fair that, since 1986, China has dedicated to ceramic raw materials and technology. From 30th May to 2nd June three hundred and twenty-five of the world’s major ceramic technology and machinery producers will be converging on Canton (now Guangzhou) to occupy an exhibition area covering a staggering 50,000 square metres.

Sacmi will be exhibiting on two stands. An outdoor one – which can be traced via the code name 1B-01 –  is located in the open-air part of the fair; here, potential customers can take a close look at a PH5000L ceramic slab press from the high-tonnage IMOLA range [the latest generation of technically evolved machines]. The main stand, instead, is located in Hall B1 – stand G-01; covering a good 450 square metres the stand includes a visitor welcome area and meeting rooms for those wishing to obtain more detailed information.

Exhibited machines will include a module from the SB5 multi-channel ceramic tile roller drier (produced by Foshan Sacmi Machinery Co. Ltd.), specially designed for companies with high output capacity but limited space availability. With the advantage of multi-level product drying it yields gains, time being equal, of several thousand extra square metres of finished product. A further advantage lies in being able to adjust temperature in the various independent modules of the plant and so create customised drying curves.

“Following a brief planning pause in 2005”, states Mauro Masini, General Manager of Sacmi Hong Kong, “the Chinese ceramic-making machinery industry has again begun to grow”. Official “China Building Material” statistics talk, in fact, of tile output figures touching 5 billion square metres in 2006 – twice the output of 2000. The driving force behind that growth is, as always, the property market; another key factor is the appearance of an ever-more export-oriented tile industry in which several Chinese producers are starting to plan relocation to neighbouring countries. “A scenario”, concludes Masini, “that creates outstanding conditions for new investment in this industry”.
