Open to Sacmi: from intranet to enterprise portal

Thanks to this joint Sacmi-IBM project, associated Group companies will soon have access to all shared information.

To transform the current company intranet into a true enterprise portal: that is, an electronic entry point that will provide all Sacmi personnel and every single associated international company in the Group with fast access to information, enhanced communication, improved teamwork and shared innovative applications. To complete the “Open to Sacmi” project – transformation of the Sacmi intranet into an enterprise portal – Sacmi has teamed up with IBM to gather and organise all company data and optimise the way it’s handled. The end result is a customisable user-friendly interface that provides smooth data management - without, of course, forgetting security.
The first two stages of the project (five will be necessary for completion) will be finished in record time and offer functions expected to be on line by Christmas '04: these first two steps consist of the adaptation and reorganisation of the current intranet content to suit the new platform and the creation of a Group area where all shared information can be accessed. Open to Sacmi will then move on to the fully interactive stage, with activation of tools such as document management, e-mail, diary, address book, instant messaging, a “chat” area and a virtual web meeting room. Open to Sacmi is expected to be fully operative by the end of 2005, with every company in the Group being interfaced through the same system using the single-sign-on protocol.
