Output boosted at Ege Seramik

The Turkish giant confirms Sacmi as its key partner in new plans to boost tile and sanitaryware capacity

Ege Seramik Company, one of Turkey’s biggest ceramics manufacturers, recently expanded its Izmir production plant following a decision to install Sacmi tile production lines. Thanks to a new PH 3800 press and a new line for special 10x10 cm pieces with an output rate of 2000 m2 per day, this new plant produces 7000 square metres of porcelain tile a day. By the end of January six new presses and driers - the key elements in the monoporosa modernisation plan - will be installed. In the meantime Holding Polat has also decided to expand the Ege Seramik Sanitaryware plant, which makes sanitaryware items in both vitreous china and fireclay. The project, developed entirely by Sacmi Whiteware, will more than double output capacity from 600 thousand to 1.4 million pieces per year. Console washbasins are cast in GDI050 horizontal-forming plaster mould machines to prevent any deformation during casting and make work easier for the operator. Casting of open rim and stick-on rim WCs takes place on eight AVM150 single-mould high pressure casting machines with porous resin moulds. De-moulding and gluing are fully robotized. Tanks and lids are cast at high pressure on an ALS150 bench battery with 3-cavity resin moulds. Moulding takes place automatically using a mould rotation system that prevents problems of deformation or tension on the piece. Washbasins and stands are cast at high pressure on an ALS150, battery bench using resin moulds. The glazing station features a new automatic 2-position electric Gaiotto robot, a system that also allows semi-automatic glazing of WC siphons. Last but not least, the existing tunnel kiln has been flanked by a new 75-metre STK 3000 tunnel kiln, fed by an automatic cart handling system. Re-firing is carried out in a SSK 440/198/5 shuttle kiln.
