Productivity takes off at Globo ceramics

A successful start to piece handling in the glazing department

A 30% increase in productivity and the complete elimination of “waiting” times. This, then, is the impressive result achieved by Globo ceramics, which has chosen Gaiotto, the Sacmi Group company that specialises in developing industrial automation solutions, to implement an ambitious investment plan aimed at boosting overall glazing department productivity.

The fulcrum of the investment is the handling area, equipped with a robot that carries out the “interchange” between already glazed pieces and those still to be glazed. The sled-mounted piece handling robot has considerably increased production of the entire plant as it operates according to a continuous cycle and, therefore, also runs during “waiting” times (e.g. when workers take a break).

In addition to shower trays the robot can also handle other pieces such as washbasins, sinks and counter-top basins. Gaiotto, which also carried out a complete renewal of Globo’s entire shower tray glazing system, has also provided Globo with a further robot for control of the existing glazing turret, used to make various sanitaryware items such as WCs and bidets. The integrated production unit – already successfully started up together with the revolutionary interchange “buffer” – is now able to operate in fully automated mode.
