R.A.K. CERAMICS AND SACMI WHITEWARE

Expansion of the R.A.K. United Arab Emirates plant and a new plant in Bangladesh

Expansion of the RAK Ceramic sanitaryware division continues to proceed steadily and efficiently. Once again RAK has selected SACMI WHITEWARE as its main partner; in these nearly 10 years of doing business, Sacmi has provided RAK with constant support, developing the solutions to satisfy RAK in every stage of its expansion. The exponential increase in output at RAK can be illustrated with the aid of one simple statistic: at the start of 1993 output was 150,000 pcs/year, while output for the start of 2003 is expected to touch a staggering 1,500,000 pcs/year. Combined with high product quality, that capacity has resulted in RAK’s successful entry onto Middle Eastern, European and American markets. RAK has recently extended its product range to include new fire clay articles and Sacmi has supplied - in addition to 2 new pressure casting units for washbasins and tanks (a total of 14 have now been installed) - a new SSK suttle kiln with a capacity of 300,000 pcs/year that will allow perfect firing of both fire clay and vitreous ware and subsequent second firing. This new phase of the project is expected to be complete by the end of January 2003. As regards Bangladesh, where RAK has already set up a tile production plant with an output capacity of about 10,000 m²/day, a project for the supply and start-up of a complete sanitaryware production plant with an output capacity of 300,000 pcs/year has been finalised. This plant is expected to be operative by the end of June 2003 and plans are already under way to double capacity soon afterwards. The entire plant is Sacmi-supplied: body and glaze preparation, casting with pressurised benches, drying and firing. The quality of the installed machines, combined with the experience of RAK’s skilled technicians, will soon ensure attainment of excellent quality levels: the perfect prerequisites for completion of a plant that is set to become one of the most modern and safest in the entire Far East.
