Red body, the new frontier of isostatic pressing

Bucciarelli, a professional of Campania’s “Vietri plate” tradition, chooses Sama technology

A dynamic business located in the Vietri ceramic district, Ceramiche Bucciarelli has chosen Sama to implement isostatic pressing technology in the manufacture of the famous “Vietri plates”.

The big news is the utilisation of this technology for the pressing of red body articles with low firing shrinkage, a new frontier for Sama and, at the same time, a far-sighted investment decision for this company that, based in Cava De’ Tirreni (Salerno), exports its traditional wares all over the wold.

Looking to the future, there is a need to carry forward a long-standing tradition while simultaneously innovating and adapting the technology to new requirements such as lower energy consumption, higher quality standards and, last but not least, decidedly user-friendly production processes.

Installed and started up in December 2014, the new PP-1S-38 press produces classics such as 26 cm plates, 24 cm dishes and 20 cm fruit bowls. As of today, this manufacturer of “red body” items on which hand-painted decorations are applied by local artists will be able to count on Sama technology to provide product quality and strength and an optimised production process.

This first isostatic pressing of red body articles was made possible thanks to effective teamwork between Ceramiche Bucciarelli and the Sama research centre, which performed comprehensive testing before achieving what is an important first in the tableware field.
