Roll or sleeve? Opera Roll Fed Sleeve Technology

The new Sacmi Labelling labeller combines the advantages of roll and sleeve technology

Sacmi Labelling has designed and built a highly successful comprehensive range of roll labelling machines for all types of plastic container and all output rates. While, however, labelling from rolls represents the best cost/quality compromise for the water and soft drinks industries, it does not, however, resolve the technical problems inherent to alternative beverage products (such as isotonic drinks, fruit juices and milk derivatives) where the label, in addition to providing an aesthetic function, needs to provide maximum coverage of the container to improve the PET barrier effect and reduce the amount of light reaching the product.
That’s why the latest Opera family of labelling machines from Sacmi Labelling uses “Roll feed sleeve technology (Rfst)”: an innovative technology that blends the advantages of the two mainstream labelling methods - “roll” and “sleeve” – and eliminates the disadvantages.
On today’s market adoption of the sleever method - whether shrink-sleeve or stretch-sleeve - inevitably involves considerable disadvantages, In economic terms, in fact, production costs are three to five times higher than those of roll-type labelling. Moreover, output rates (50 percent of that achievable with roll-fed machines) place further limits on use.
Now, with Opera Rfst, Sacmi Labelling offers producers a sleeve that costs the same as or only slightly more than the common roll-fed label. This new technology can be used at high output rates on all applications where Hot Melt glue/container contact can be limiting. Finally, Roll feed sleeve technology allows the construction, application and subsequent shrinkage of a joined sleeve starting directly with a roll of film, with output rates of up to 1000 bpm.
