Rumanian firm Macofil chooses ‘Made in Italy’

Major Sacmi Heavy Clay order for the Targu Jiu plant

Italian technology for the new plant owned by Macofil, a Rumanian construction materials firm that leads the way in everything from ceramics to bricks, from road surfacing to piping. Tested at the beginning of July, the plant - located in the city of Targu Jiu, in the south-east of the country - was built by Sacmi’s Heavy Clay division and Bongioanni Macchine, a Piemonte-based provider of machines to the brick industry.

More specifically, Sacmi provided the drying machine, a fixed-cone model with an external motor: measuring a massive 66 x 18 metres, the dryer can handle 6 production lines simultaneously and features internal, variable-speed fans. Also Sacmi-made is the modern tunnel kiln, measuring 141 x 4.6 metres and able to hold 33 cars, of which 4 are in the pre-kiln: another key kiln feature is burner adjustment, which allows the user to adjust flame height and intensity according to the specific product and the required firing curve.

Sacmi has also supplied a fully automatic on-pallet packaging line equipped with a strapping station and a special shrink-wrap oven. An industrial partnership, then, of the very highest level that Macofil has relied on to complete one of the most important investments in its history: fully automated, the new plant has a daily output capacity of 400 tons per day of various sizes of hollow brick, mainly intended for use in construction.

Thanks to this investment, Macofil will be able to meet customer demand with an extensive range of high-quality products, as clearly demonstrated by the excellent market response following the line start-up, with enormous success for Macofil in terms of both customer satisfaction and sold product volume. Also worth highlighting is, in keeping with Sacmi’s consumption optimisation policy, the performance of the new plant from an energy standpoint: tests have shown that every kilogram of finished product – drying and firing included – requires an average of no more than 350 kcal.
