Sacmi Imola reinforces its position in India

Stronger on the Asian market thanks to local production of machines for the ceramic and plastic industries

Three undeniable background facts: the existence of highly qualified local personnel – more than capable of managing production facilities directly – growing internal demand and, finally, the opportunity to set up a value-creating chain in the local currency that will be less dependent on exchange rate fluctuations. Three facts about the Indian market that led Sacmi Imola, at the end of 2007, to set up Sacmi Engineering to begin producing machines directly in situ for sale on the local market.

The new company, located near Ahmedabad – a key city and the economic hub of the Gujarat region – immediately purchased a 4 thousand square metre factory building in which production of machines for the ceramic and plastic industries is already under way. Sacmi Engineering also purchased a further area of around 57 thousand square metres, which will see, by the end of 2009, the construction of the first 10 thousand square metres of workshop, 1500 m2 of offices and a further 300 m2 for canteen and service areas.

So, yet another boost to the Sacmi Group’s internationalisation process, which already has twenty years of experience on the Indian market. Sacmi, in fact, initially provided commercial support via a liaison office, then, subsequently, by setting up a branch office of the subsidiary Sacmi Impianti. It was the positive feedback vis-à-vis the outstanding professionalism of the Indian personnel taken on by the branch office that led the Group to set up a new production site in the Gujarat, the region home to the bulk of the Indian ceramic industry.
