Sacmi solutions for closures&beverage on show at Sri Lanka Plast

From the CCM to the new IPS, which lies at the core of an integrated manufacturing machine range that provides an effective response to the needs of an ever-growing market

South-East Asia is becoming ever-more essential, also in terms of volumes, to Group growth and development prospects - and Sacmi leads the way there as a key technology provider to the closures & containers and beverage industries. These markets are as dynamic as they are diversified; Sacmi aims to give them what they need by offering finely-targeted solutions and a far-reaching presence in several countries. That means local production facilities, after-sales services and excellent sales marketing thanks to participation in key fairs such as the biannual Sri Lanka Plast, a crucial window on the local plastic industry that is just a stone’s throw from the massive Indian market.

Taking centre-stage at the 2014 edition of the fair – to be held in the city of Colombo from 14 to 16 August – will be the latest technological solutions for closures: on one side, that means the CCM (continuous compression moulding) series, the plastic cap compression press range characterised, among other things, by the low temperatures at which the extrusion process occurs; this ensures considerable advantages on the energy consumption front plus, thanks to the reduced strain on materials and mechanical components, a longer machine life. Available as of 2013 with the innovative “enhanced cooling” COOL+ mould – ensuring even greater shorter cycle times and higher energy savings – the CCM range represents the world’s most competitive solution for the production of caps in HDPE, PP and other commercially available resins.

Next to the CCM machines, visitors to the fair will also have the opportunity to take a close look at the innovative IPS (injection preform system)(Sacmi stand, n°4, Hall A). This new-concept injection press for the manufacture of preforms is characterised by reduced cycle times, thanks to optimisation of the hydraulic system, the use of digital servo-valves fitted near the actuators and an optimised machine design that makes the press opening and clamping stages even more efficient. Moreover, the innovative user-friendly interface allows for easy control and minimises the time needed to train workers. Most importantly, the IPS is a flexible press that guarantees ultra-fast size changeovers.

Just two examples, then, of an integrated turnkey production plant range that Sacmi Beverage – the Division that has, since 2009, combined all the Group’s individual labelling, filling, cap and container manufacturing skills – successfully provides by keeping its technological and manufacturing core in Italy while, at the same time, operating ever-closer to the customer thanks to an extensive presence in numerous countries and markets. For example, in Sri Lanka alone over 400 firms work in the plastic industry, supplying customers both domestic and foreign: they see Made in Sacmi technology as the perfect response to their specific manufacturing needs on a market that – especially in the food & beverage sector – is enjoying double-figure growth rates and offers good prospects for further expansion, also in the medium term.
