Sacmi supplies GSI with new ADS robotized unit for the production of shower trays

The project to provide GSI Sanitari di Gallese (Viterbo) with an integrated ADS robotized shower tray production unit stems from a desire to meet multiple needs that, in today’s society, are of fundamental importance: to improve working conditions for labour, to reduce costs and output times and to improve finished product quality. Needs that Sacmi has already provided solutions for in many of the other high pressure casting plants it has installed all over the world.

This integrated production unit consists of an ADS robot which moves along a slide (a movement controlled as the seventh robot axis) and the accessories needed to allow de-moulding, storage and automatic car loading. A special rotating platform underneath the cars allows optimisation of product loading.

Machine automation has been designed to maximize interfacing efficiency with downstream stages - especially drying, inspection and glazing - and to allow implementation of large washbasin production in the future.

High pressure production, together with automatic manipulation of articles of considerable size (up to 1 metre or more) and weight, means not only considerably reduced exertion on the part of the workers: it also lowers the risk of them developing occupational illnesses over time. Floor space remaining equal, this solution also raises productivity, enhances finished product quality and reduces output waste as there is less risk of workers damaging or chipping the pieces.

When the pieces reach the automated integrated glazing units their surfaces are glazed by special robots featuring spray guns. The combination of cutting-edge robots and glaze mass flow control systems ensures excellent repeatability and consistent finished product quality.
