Sacmi supports the people of Togo

Thanks to a donation from Sacmi Imola, a multi-purpose health centre will soon be built

From small mechanical cooperative to multinational industrial group: this, then, is the Sacmi story. Yet it has never forgotten the social significance written into its founding statutes. Among the various ‘social aspects’ of the company – periodic publication of a social audit, contribution to the socio-economic infrastructure of Imola and so on – are the donations made by Sacmi Imola in support of international cooperation projects, donations usually made at Christmas time.

This year Sacmi has made a significant donation to Aviat (the ‘Italian Friends of Togo Voluntary Association’) for the construction of a third building designed to benefit the local African population (the other two buildings were donated in 2000 and 2002). More specifically, Sacmi’s donation will result in the establishment of a Health Centre, completed with the relevant fittings; a well will also be dug. This Centre will provide essential services to the most vulnerable people, especially those living in rural areas.

A team of specialists and suitable medical equipment will provide health services that are, at present, only available to those living in Togo’s major towns. The clinic will provide, among other things, prenatal assistance, gynaecological examinations, general and surgical paediatrics, opthalmology, vaccinations, and diagnosis. The project, already being organised by the association – which works in close collaboration with the local authorities – will soon become a reality thanks to Sacmi’s donation: the last building is expected to be completed over the next eight months.
