“Let’s imagine, for the first time in history, seeing a crew of heroes, sailors with physical disabilities, going head to head in the world’s greatest match-racing competition – the America’s Cup”. This ‘challenge within the challenge’, then, is the dream of the association ideaArgo: to bring together – for the very first time – a crew of disabled sailors. That idea produced a clear-cut project, developed by a group of world-class athletes and professionals - and then the boat, Argo-French Kiss, designed by Philippe Briand, already an America’s Cup semi-finalist in 1987.
A year ago came the official presentation of the plan to participate in the 33rd edition of the America’s Cup in 2010, to “win like no-one ever has before and, through the opportunities offered by sailing, break through the barriers that hold back the disabled”. Last October Argo-French kiss, only just back in the water after a refit, won the prestigious “Les Voiles de Saint- Tropez”.
The project was developed in Turin, a city with a long-standing nautical tradition that lies at the heart of technological innovation. A project that has also given rise to a book, “Argo. A modern story beyond sailing”, published with the support of Sinergia spa – the new Sacmi Group company that provides consulting and administrative outsourcing services – and presented last May by the association ideaArgo at the 20th international book fair, itself held in Turin.
Sinergia will be in Turin from 20th to 24th June – a period that coincides with the celebration of the city’s patron saint, San Giovanni – to sponsor the “unveiling”: this is the moment in which the crews unveil the secrets behind their success by showing the keels of their boats. Argo-French Kiss will be on display for four whole days in the splendid showcase of piazza Vittorio Veneto. Everyone will have an opportunity to get a close look at it thanks to a series of ramps and walkways that will, naturally, also make it easy for the disabled to see the boat. Visitors will also get to admire the renewed hull graphics by Roger Pfund, one of the greatest contemporary artists, who will be present at the inauguration together with representatives of the city’s public authorities.
Sinergia, will, for the occasion, be setting up a promotional stand with catalogues and posters. The company will also be taking the opportunity to publicise its new website, www.sinergia-solutions.it: a key tool for illustrating its market activities, the site has been given a complete overhaul by Sinergia and is now compliant with the latest web communication standards, which focus on user-friendliness and content usability. The new site also has news, events and job opportunities sections, areas of evident interest to visitors, while customers can count on a dedicated reserved area.
