South Africa: new equipment for Sphinx Bathroomware

Two complete fibreglass bathtub lines for the Ceramic Industries Group company

As of today the Sphinx Bathroomware production plant can count on two complete lines for reinforcement of fibreglass bathtubs, designed and built by Sacmi Whiteware-Gaiotto Automation. Belonging to the Ceramic Industries Group, Sphinx Acrylic Bathroomware was founded in 1986. Based at Springs, in South Africa, it produces acrylic fibre sanitaryware articles.

These Sacmi-supplied lines will provide this South African company with an outstanding product finish that, thanks to cutting-edge technology, complies with environmental compatibility standards. Each line, in fact, consists of a pallet-type transporter with piece-carrying cars, two spraying booths and a rolling booth with dry filters and polymerisation drier (maximum temperature of 45° C). Completing the line is a reinforcing board lifting device – which features programmable suction cups for different modules – and two GA2000 model robots, designed and built by Gaiotto Automation.

High finished product quality standards are, more specifically, ensured by having the two GA2000 robots work in conjunction with the Mass Control system – complete with catalyser – that manages the bi-component resin and by employing a special device that controls the Roving pneumatic motor. This system ensures both constant feed of resin and fibre and attainment of uniform-thickness models.

A further step forwards, then, for Ceramic Industries, the Group that gained full control of Sphinx Acrylic Bathroomware about one year ago – and a choice that highlights the farsighted management decisions of the Group, headed by Chairman Gianni Ravazzotti and Managing Director Nick Booth.
