Special: the 3rd Sacmi-organised “Technological

Talks, topics and technology presented to 69 companies from all over the world

One hundred and sixty people representing 69 sanitaryware producers from 32 different countries, from Germany to Spain and all the way to Asia. Now in its 3rd edition, the Technological Trends in Sanitaryware convention, organised by Sacmi Imola on the eve of Tecnargilla, has become a must for those wishing to catch up on latest developments in the industry. In the morning, dozens of technicians and experts were given a guided tour of the Sacmi Lab and an opportunity to meet the Whiteware R&D staff, get a sneak preview of new products and see high-pressure casting equipment in action. In the afternoon, participants listened enthusiastically to talks given by a select group of speakers: the seminar, chaired by the Managing Director of Sacmi Whiteware, included a talk by Patrizio Bianchi (former chairman of Nomisma and now rector of the University of Ferrara) on "Far East: new industrial dynamics" and a talk by Massimo Bortott (Alessi’s licensing manager) on "Interior design, bathrooms and sanitaryware: trends in Italian design".
"Something big is about to happen in this industry", explained Mr. Ferragina is his introductory remarks. "The technological development that has radically changed the tile industry over the last few years will soon involve the sanitaryware industry, transforming what is still a very traditional, almost craft-like approach to production into a highly advanced industrial process. We aim to be ready for that challenge, and the machines that Sacmi proposes will be on show for everyone tomorrow at Tecnargilla. The high attendance at this convention clearly shows that we all want to understand where this evolution is going to lead us".
The second part of the convention involved somewhat more technical talks. A discourse on "High pressure casting bodies" was provided by Peter Hancock (Ceram Research, England) while William M.Carty (Professor of Ceramic Engineering at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University) gave a talk on "Behaviour of vitreous china bodies in relation to the vitreous phase". To close the event Javier Castillo (Market Research Consultant of at Bsria) gave a presentation of "World sanitaryware market data".
A round-up of the talks and topics dealt with at the convention is attached.
