Star Ceramics – a new ‘star’ on the world’s ceramic stage

New plant in Bangladesh joins the KMG (Khater Massaad Group) family

Successfully started up in the first quarter of 2013, an all-new Sacmi-supplied plant is now running at full capacity at 110 Km from Dhaka. This new industrial gem has a floor and wall tile output capacity of 12,500 square metres per day, all intended for the growing local market.

Starting with body preparation, this plant consists of seven 34,000-litre drum mills, an ATE65 spray drier, all supplied and engineered right down to the last part by Sacmi. The pressing section features two PH3020 presses with an inter-column clearance of 2250 mm and a 5-channel EM5 drier that is 2850 mm wide and 19.6 metres long. The firing area includes a 153.3-metre long FCC260 kiln equipped with an air recovery system that channels cooling air into the combustion area to reduce gas consumption.

The order also includes glaze grinding equipment and, above all, no less than 3 sorting lines, two of which handle the product directly as it leaves the kiln and one positioned at the outfeed of the squaring line.

The parent company (the above-cited Khater Massaad Group) clearly has every intention of expanding rapidly: further confirmation of this is seen in the assembly work currently being carried out on more machines intended to double output. This additional order includes six 34,000-litre drum mills, an ATI90 spray drier, two PH5000L presses with an inter-column clearance of 1750 mm (and a pressing force of 5000 tons - a first for Bangladesh), a 5-channel, 2850 mm wide, 22.4-metre long EM5 drier, an FCC285 kiln having the same length as the previous one and a further 3 sorting lines, one of which is positioned after the polishing line.

This array of machines clearly indicates that their owners aim to play a pivotal role on the market: daily output capacity is, in fact, 9000 m2 of 600x600 tile and the same line can also produce large sizes that had not, until now, been produced in Bangladesh.

Yet another demonstration, then, of the Sacmi Group’s proficiency as a global, fast, reliable partner.
