New cove base and small tile factory planned

By the end of 2001 a new factory for the production of cove base pieces and small tiles will be set up in the province of Cagliari. This factory stems from initiatives put forward by young entrepreneurs on the island and is backed up by technical support from Sacmi, which is supplying the press, a horizontal dryer, a special-pitch kiln and a sorting line. The last of these, the innovative sorting line, is especially suitable for the production of cove base pieces and features ultra-modern packaging solutions. The plant will produce 2,500 m² of cove base pieces a day. Sacmi has decided to support this initiative - financed according to an Italian law designed to aid start-up businesses - because of its social and economic importance: it will, in fact, be providing 20 jobs and is likely to form an important part of the area’s economy.
