USA develops a liking for ultra-large tiles

American company Crossville focuses on the potential of Sacmi’s PH 7500 press

Time to see how things are going for American giant Crossville Inc., the market-leading producer of technical and glazed granito, more than a year after starting up the highest-tonnage press ever to be installed in the USA. The press, a Sacmi-made PH7500, was purchased to produce large tiles, a product segment that is steadily gaining ground on the American market.

The considerable width of 2450 mm and the outstanding 1360 mm maximum filling depth allow the customer to achieve excellent results. And the market response is becoming ever-more interesting as Crossville’s decision to boost production of 600x600 tiles (and its multiples) shows: they have also decided to start large-scale production of 600x900 tiles: presented for the first time last Spring at the Coverings fair in Orlando, these have already won widespread acclaim, starting with visitors to the fair itself.

Encouraged by these results Crossville has decided to raise the bar of its own ambition even further. Other near-future goals – which the company aims to achieve by exploiting the full potential of Sacmi’s technological gem – include even larger tiles, all the way up to the record-breaking 1200x1200.
