Yas Ceram: a flower in the Iranian desert

New Sacmi-made plant to become operational before summer

Yas is the name of a highly perfumed flower that grows in Iran. It is especially common in the desert zone between Yazd and Meybod, where the country’s new ceramic production district has been going from strength to strength in recent years; it is also the name of a new ceramic company that will become operational before summer.

This new project, which was preceded by in-depth studies to identify the best plant engineering configuration to produce 6 million square metres of tiles a year, combines quality and competitive production costs while offering maximum flexibility to compete efficiently at critical market times like the one being experienced at present.

Located in the Meybod industrial district on a site covering over 85,000 square metres, the plant features continuous grinding with two 41 m3 MTC units that provide fully automated slip batching and flow; these feed the material to a spray drier (an ATM 90) that evaporates 9000 l/h, the powder from which feeds 4 pressing lines, two with 2000-ton presses and two with 2800-ton presses. There follow 4 high energy efficiency EVA 793 vertical driers and four 115-metre glazing lines with cutting-edge glaze and decoration application. Downstream from here lie two 113.4-metre FMS kilns with an effective infeed width of 2500 mm, served both before and after by fully robotized storage systems (complete with automatic vehicles) with box and rack units that maximise output elasticity and thus first-choice product yield. Completing the line are 4 double-table sorting lines, complete with 11 stackers of the latest Global model and high speed palletizers with flat pick-up.

An impressive plant, then, capable of blending top-flight performance with the very best technology available and able to play a pivotal role on today’s regional and, indeed, entire Middle Eastern ceramic scene. The choice of SACMI as a complete plant engineering partner shows that Yas Ceram management is decidedly future-oriented, its sights set on rapid market success even in this time of considerable market difficulty.

A new flower of technology has blossomed thanks to teamwork with SACMI; YAS Ceram is now preparing to reap the rewards and become one of the area’s major players.
