“Ceràmica blanca” - major meeting in Castellon

Sacmi to give talk at technical seminar organised by the Spanish Ceramic Society

Consumer, functional or decorative products, such as tiles, tableware and sanitaryware. Items that demand specific production processes and follow their own artistic rules, themselves dictated by market needs. That will be the subject of discussion at “Ceràmica blanca: from porcelànico to porcelain and vice versa”, a technical seminar being organised by the Spanish Ceramic Society in Castellon de la Plana for this coming 30th May.

The event, to be held at the head offices of the “University-Business Foundation” of Castellon, is aimed at floor/wall tiling, tableware and sanitaryware professionals yet also producers of artistic ceramics, colour producers and manufacturers of machines for ceramics. Talks will be given by researchers and university professors such as Enrique Sànchez Vilches (professor at the Institute of Ceramic Technology of Castellon) and Carmen Mañueco Santurtùn, of the Modern Art Department of the Archaeological Museum of Madrid. There will also be talks by industrial managers such as di Vincente Lambies Lavilla, CEO of Porvasal, and Pietro Cassani, General Manager of Sacmi Imola. Mr. Cassani will be speaking at 12.30; the title of his talk is “Technology and Machines for ceramics: tiles, tableware, sanitaryware”.

Scheduled for 20th May in the city of Castellon de la Plana, the hub of Spain’s most important ceramic manufacturing district, the meeting is a significant one. That city hosts a wealth of companies that share not only involvement in the same industry but also a need to keep learning, to assess products carefully starting with a detailed analysis of the raw materials, themselves selected according to the desired shape and function of the final product. They also need to learn more about the most suitable processing technologies and most innovative machines currently available to producers. “Advancement through Learning”, then, is the motto chosen by the Spanish Ceramic Society to promote the meeting – for a science that is more than a thousand years old yet has gradually specialised to a point where nothing can be left to chance.
