“Mission” in India: another success for Sacmi

From Indian Ceramics 2007 to seminars for local businessmen

Good results from Indian Ceramics 2007, India’s biggest ceramic trade fair, held in Mumbai from 11th to 13th April. Italy was present with three major producers of ceramic-making machines, Siti/B&T, System and, of course, the Sacmi Group. Among the foreign producers present at Mumbai were the Chinese firms Acmi, Lithai and Keda, plus a small cluster of Spanish companies. Most of the Indian exhibitors were suppliers of raw materials; for them, business is undoubtedly booming as India is the second most populous country in the world and, after China, has the world’s fastest growing economy, which includes a rapidly developing ceramic industry.

The Sacmi stand – stylishly furnished for the occasion by a group of architects hired by Sacmi Impianti India - attracted a steady flow of visitors. Numerous customers reaffirmed their faith in the Sacmi Group, some of them coming from abroad to participate at Indian Ceramics, the host nation of which is, in many ways, still a developing country in need of improvement; this much was pointed by several companies at the fair. Necessary improvements concern not only product quality but, above all, product promotion. In this sense Indian Ceramics was an important occasion for operators keen to make the most of the Indian market’s enormous potential.

Sacmi took advantage of its India “mission” to organise, in the days following the Mumbai fair, two seminars in two towns of Gujarat, each of which has a long-standing ceramic manufacturing district. The first was held at Raikot, on 16th April, and the second at Ahmedabab, on the 18th: the aim of the events was to bring in expert Sacmi technicians and show local producers the characteristics of Group-made machines, highlighting their strong points, especially as regards energy savings. Particular satisfaction was gained from the keen questioning that came from local businessmen and technicians at the end of the seminars, a further indication that Sacmi’s decision to focus on emerging Asian markets was the correct one.
