Abul Khair Group Bangladesh takes over Fahim sanitaryware and grows with Sacmi

Since taking over Dhaka-based sanitaryware producer FAHIM, the Abul Khair Group, one of the biggest corporate Groups in Bangladesh, has invested in the world’s best technology to increase both the volumes and the efficiency of the business.

In less than 2 years they have introduced NIV pressure casting, Gaiotto robotised glazing and a Riedhammer tunnel kiln and shuttle kiln; in short, with SACMI they have completed the first stage of plant expansion.

With this new plant configuration output capacity has now reached 100,000 pieces per month and many new models have been introduced to extend the company’s product range for the domestic market.

This rapid expansion has been made possible thanks to a well designed project drawn up by SACMI and the utilisation of high quality raw materials. SACMI is providing close support and outstanding technology with regard to both the production process and the attainment of international production control and finished product quality standards.

The project consists of 3 pressure casting machines for the production of washbasins, columns, squat toilets and tanks.

A robotised glazing line has been supplied to ensure improved, stable glaze application for newer, more complex models such as One Piece WCs.

The Riedhammer tunnel kiln has a total length of 75 metres and is used to fire items from both the new and traditional casting departments.

Traditional casting output capacity has also been boosted by the AKC team through the installation of new casting benches and other plant completion equipment items.

Lastly, the shuttle kiln has a capacity of 33 cubic metres.

The Abul Khair Group, based in Chittagong, operates in several sectors: it has facilities supplying the construction industry with items such as cement and steel bars, plants producing tea, condensed milk, mineral water and tobacco and, lastly, is active in the metallurgy industry with a factory for the production of steel billets.
With regard to the ceramic field the Group is investing to enter into the tile business and the new production plant is expected to start production in 2014.
