Advanced Ceramics: Sacmi & Cumi partnership strengthens

In production a new PH 690 at Carborundum Universal Limited, India

A 600 ton press in special configuration was recently installed at Hosur (Tamil Nadu State, India) where Carborundum Universal Limited (Cumi) has a plant dedicated to industrial ceramics. Cumi is a leading player in making advanced ceramics, abrasives and refractories and belongs to Murugappa Group one of India’s biggest business conglomerates with more than 4.4 billion USD annual turnover and 32.000 employees.

The Sacmi PH 690 press combines high production speed and flexibility to the traditional distinctive features that make Sacmi hydraulic presses successful worldwide: from accurate powder filling, to closed loop ejection device, to the control system that guarantees products quality and constancy, to the auto-diagnostics, that ensure absolute efficiency.

The partnership with Sacmi will then ensure Cumi to confidently meet the increasing market demands for sophisticated ceramic products in high volumes, giving a perfect platform support to Cumi’s know-how for high quality ceramics in special shapes.
The machine, in fact, is producing Alumina slabs with thickness up to 60 mm, an application in which the importance of uniform distribution of the density throughout the thickness of the piece becomes fundamental in order to prevent «weak spots» in the final products.

Cumi’s latest investment decision has reinforced an already solid industrial partnership that began some years ago.
