Assopiastrelle: the tiles output is 589 million square metres

Sales reached 5.3 billion Euro (+3%). The gres porcelanized tiles are still at the top

The Italian ceramic tile industry is confirming that in 2004 the market kept its shares.
In 2004 the tiles production has been 589.2 million m2 with a downturn of 14 million equivalent to 2.4% (due to a slight drop in foreign market sales) with respect to 2003.
The figures released by the 25th National Statistical Survey of the Italian ceramic tile industry are reconfirming the leadership of the gres porcelanized technology that is covering 61% of the whole production corresponding to 360 million m2.
Next come the single fired tiles (25%) and the double fired ones (8.8%).
The most productive areas are the districts of Modena and Reggio Emilia representing 80% of the whole production, while the remaining provinces of Emilia Romagna are covering 10%.
Sales in 2004 have been corresponding to a production of 583,7 million m2  with a negligible decrease of 0.7%. At the end of 2004 the Italian Industry invoiced 5.3 billion Euro, representing a +3% growth. Sales inland reached 1.5 billion Euro (+3.1%), while the export quota amounted to 3.8 billion Euro (+3%)
