Ceramica Castelvetro installs largest, most ecological kiln in the area

The jewel in the crown of the H.E.R.O. project, this new Sacmi kiln will allow this Modena-based company to raise productivity while cutting costs and emissions.

The kiln with the widest infeed in the entire Emilia-Romagna ceramic production district... and, at the same time, the most “ecological”. Installed by Ceramica Castelvetro of Solignano (Modena), this is the first fully integrated project to be completed by Sacmi as part of the H.E.R.O (High Efficiency Resource Optimizer) project, Sacmi’s ambitious programme to combine outstanding performance, energy savings and environmental awareness, as presented for the first time at Tecnargilla 2008.

The kiln – purchased by the company owned by Igino Guazzi’s family – a FMS 2950, has, at present, the widest infeed in the entire district. One hundred metres long, it features the XTR system, able to maximise heat recovery and slash running costs by at least 20 percent compared to the kiln used so far at Ceramica Castelvetro. And that’s not all: together with the kiln, Sacmi has supplied the company with the first turnkey plant for the recovery of excess heat from the four existing dryers.

Plant design – from piping to valves, from fans to booster units and flow control – was carried out in “non-intrusive” mode so as to allow smooth integration with the existing building. The result is a “total recovery closed cycle” that lowers both consumption and the level of atmospheric emissions, fully compliant not only with legal requirements but also modern environmental protection targets.

With this investment, then, which aims at total internal energy recovery and minimisation of dispersion, Ceramica Castelvetro achieves a true “ecological integrated cycle” that constitutes an effective and innovative response to the current needs of the ceramic market. A cutting-edge solution that blends the natural need for higher productivity – in a market that is becoming more and more competitive and hardened – while containing costs and emissions.
