Ceratec 2007: good news for Whiteware and Refractory

Demand for high-tech plants on the Indian market continues to grow

Positive results for Ceratec 2007, the international ceramic technology conference held in Visakhapatnam, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Sacmi participated in the three-day event, held from 8th to 10th January 2007, with the Whiteware and Refractory divisions.

Indian operators expressed keen interest in refractories, especially those used in the metallurgical industries. It is now becoming clear that there is a steadily growing need among local producers to equip themselves with better quality, higher-tonnage machines, especially as regards presses and extruders. Added to this is the ever-greater internal demand for steel, particularly within the construction sector.

A great occasion, then, for Sacmi to strengthen its ties with several long-standing customers - yet also an opportunity to establish contacts with key industrial groups, so far unknown to Imola, that are keen to purchase plants with innovative features as yet unavailable on the Indian market. Several eager-to-invest Indian firms have asked Sacmi Refractory to supply not only sophisticated control systems and software, applied on high tonnage presses to guarantee outstanding quality, but also high capacity extruders. There were also interesting business developments for Sacmi on the Whiteware front, especially as regards sanitaryware and insulators.

Talks at Ceratec covered key subjects such as ceramic technology training and the characteristics of advanced ceramics, a clear indicator of growing demand on the Indian market for quality; another key topic – discussed in the presence of numerous engineers and specialised technicians, among others – was that of ceramic bodies that improve finished product quality. And in India the interest doesn’t stop there: there was also much talk of energy recovery, reducing consumption and the re-utilisation of processing waste, topics that are increasingly widespread on emerging markets such as the Indian one.
