Continua+, operators from all over the world visited Sacmi Imola on 30th September

Operators from over 30 countries representing the biggest Italian and international ceramic companies travelled to Imola to see the line running. Several of the products able to be manufactured were displayed specially for the occasion, from very large floor slabs developed with major colour manufacturers to ultra-large slabs up to 3200 mm long

On 30th September 160 specialised operators from 30 countries witnessed a live demonstration of the new CONTINUA+ line, the revolutionary Sacmi technology for the manufacture of large decorated ceramic slabs, which stands out on account of infinite production possibilities. This solution is already gaining, just a year after its launch, a growing share of the market on five continents, with 13 plants already installed and started up by the industry’s leading global players.

After flying in from all over the globe, the representatives of the major Italian, European and international ceramic groups had an opportunity to observe the new line in operation at the renewed Sacmi R&D Center. This facility has, since 1989, been pivotal to the Group; it is where innovations are developed and tested before being industrialized and supplied to the ceramics industry, in fields ranging from tiles to sanitaryware, from tableware to heavy clay. Here, test samples of new products are made on a pilot scale in close collaboration with customers, colour manufacturers and design studios.

The visit to the Sacmi Research Center reached its high point with an illustration of the specific characteristics of the Continua+, from the proprietary Sacmi technology behind the development of the belt-type super-compactor – which ensures the manufacture of decorated ceramic tiles up to 1600 mm wide with a potentially "unlimited" length, without any constraints on size or thickness – to solutions designed to guarantee multiple on-product effects such as structures and HD graphics thanks to integration between DDD dry digital decorators, the use of structured belts and DHD wet digital decorators (the latter developed by Sacmi-Intesa).

The attainable product range is vast, offering maximum flexibility and zero waste: from the large 120x240 formats with very high resolution graphics (samples made in close cooperation with leading colour manufacturers were displayed specially for the occasion) to the standard porcelain tile and marble-natural stone (polished and not) sizes, obtained thanks to integration with the cutting line. Then, of course, there are the huge slabs measuring 3200 mm by 1600 mm. A potentially infinite variety of decorations, thicknesses, textures and sizes that gives enormous potential to the ceramic product, maximum creative freedom to interior designers and significant added value to producers.
