Daelim Bath korea installs a sacmi plant at its facility in Changwon City

Daelim Bath, South Korea’s biggest sanitaryware manufacturer and the leading provider of style and technology on the Korean market, has decided to boost the technology level in the glazing department of its second manufacturing site in the country’s southern Changwon City (near Busan city).

 This Sacmi installation is configured according to a new integrated glazing island concept, designed (and presented at Tecnargilla 2014) for the production of large WCs that, above all, require accurate automatic handling systems that maintain high process efficiency.

This glazing island (or ‘integrated glazing centre’) is dedicated to the production of One Piece WCs – the cornerstone of Daelim’s elite, luxury sanitaryware range – and occupies a compact space of just 16 x 9 metres.

The delicate task of handling pieces exiting the inspection booths is carried out by a FANUC R2000iB anthropomorphic robot with a wrist load capacity of 185 kg: this sorts the semi-finished articles among two glazing booths.

The articles are sprayed by the GAIOTTO GA2000 robot, which alternates between the booths and features 8-axis control to manage the two working positions in the respective booths. This dual-booth configuration, as well as optimising working times, allows the application of two glaze coats.

The island also includes a conveying system with 7 set-down positions, again fed with the Handling robot and featuring an automatic foot cleaner that eliminates the need for manual finishing tasks at the glazing island outfeed.

The cell also features an intermediate 6-position inspected product pre-spray storage station.

The technological core of the cell is the self-learning GA 2000 robot that, in this case, features all the latest GAIOTTO-developed glaze spraying innovations:

  • MASS CONTROL® glaze delivery control system;
  • automatic Gaiotto-built GDA 80 spray gun, equipped with a diaphragm system that reduces gun maintenance costs by 90% and increases maximum glaze delivery by 50%;
  • the pneumatic 90° gun tilt system, which, together with a 25% smaller gun, lets the robot arm spray areas that are hidden or difficult to reach.
