Gaiotto solutions for Brazilian buses

Innovative robotized application for Marcopolo SA, the country’s largest bus maker

Brazil’s leading bus manufacturer, Marcopolo SA has chosen an innovative, robotized fibreglass coating solution developed by Gaiotto Automation. Based in Caxias do Sul - where the firm has operated, since 1949, manufacturing almost half the body parts on the buses that roam Brazil’s roads and exporting to over 60 countries – Marcopolo has decided to invest in GA 2000 robots, top-of-the-range Gaiotto machines that ensure outstanding process automation and, simultaneously, more efficient application of the resin/fibreglass mix on body parts, a task previously performed manually.

The machine - designed by Gaiotto in compliance with Atex standards - can, in fact, operate in two distinct areas of the booth, where swivel platforms, controlled as additional robot axes, have been installed. This solution allows pieces of varying size and shape to be reached and, via sophisticated software, coated with fibreglass. Thanks to the integrated control system, then, every stage of delivery of the various raw materials can be monitored in real time; this optimises consumption and allows transmission, again in real time, of all line data to the company control system, allowing accurate monitoring of every in-booth production phase.

Significant process innovation, then, that has allowed Gaiotto to reinforce its presence on the Brazilian market and nurture an important partnership with Marcopolo. More generally, for Sacmi Group companies specialised in the production of automated solutions, this latest deal strengthens their position in the BRICS area which has, since 2010 – according to data from the IMF – been driving the global economy.
