Gigacer focuses on the advantages of “Continua”

High-potential technology: productivity and outstanding flexibility

An innovation-oriented ceramic company born out of the clear-cut policies of a group of specialist managers, Gigacer boasts plant engineering that is exclusively Sacmi-designed. Based in Faenza (Ravenna), Gigacer – an ambitious name for a clearly ambitious firm – has taken full advantage of an innovative technology for the production of various sizes of ceramic wall tile, decorated without the use of liquid glazes yet of outstanding aesthetic quality.

To complete the company’s output potential last August saw the installation of a Sacmi-built “Continua” production line, which takes its name from the technology officially presented by the Group at Tecnargilla 2006. The Gigacer plant is the fourth installation Sacmi has executed since it developed the system and, at this point, Continua constitutes a ‘mature’ technology characterised by reliability and performance, making it a point of reference for forward-looking firms looking to incorporate the most recent innovations into porcelain tile production.

Installed in Faenza, the plant includes, in addition to the PCR 160 rotary compactor and TPV 162 cutting unit, a series of new devices that make laying of the powders to be formed even simpler and more efficient. The line can be used to make full-body or double/triple-filling products, using all the raw materials (bodies, glazes etc.) in a wide range of forms such as powders, flakes, grains and so on. The plant can also automatically manage unfired waste and re-cycle it back into the line as an intermediate layer deposited between the base and upper surfaces.

The classic PH 7200 press provides final forming of a 120x120 cm slab, allowing for easy storage and flexible sectioning of the fired product; production of the requested size is completed only shortly before shipment. With all the machines now styled similarly, the line itself has also undergone something of aesthetic overhaul; it also features an innovative operator interface system based on the use of lights and sounds. Already, only a few weeks after installation, Gigacer has successfully developed dozens of different products able to meet the requirements of an ever-more demanding market.
