Grany Taganaya, with SACMI for the future of Zlatoust

Last 16th May the Russian city celebrated the start-up of a complete technical and glazed tile plant equipped with all the latest SACMI technology, from body preparation to sorting

Located in the ńĆeljabinsk region, in European Russia close to the Ural Mountains, the city of Zlatoust recently inaugurated (16th May) the new Grany Taganaya plant. From grinding solutions to sorting lines, this complete plant features a full array of SACMI technology and will soon be producing technical tiles and glazed porcelain tiles.

Pivotal to line performance are the SACMI PH 6500 presses, ideal for the manufacture of 60x60 formats or the larger 60x90 cm. Upstream from the presses, SACMI has supplied a full complement of equipment: from raw material batching and slip colouring to the MMC 092 modular mill and the ATM 90 spray dryer. In the firing department, instead, the plant features a 161.7 metre long SACMI FMS 295 kiln.

Famed for its long-standing tradition of crafting knives, swords and sabres (hence the twinning with Maniago, the 'city of knives' in Italy's Friuli region), Zlatoust greeted the new plant with enthusiasm; its inauguration was attended by local authorities, appreciative of the economic and employment benefits it will bring the city.

Moreover, the just-installed line, which will start producing regularly by the end of June, may be just the first stage of a more ambitious plan. With a total annual output of 2.5 million m2, the line has explicitly been designed by Grany Taganaya to allow a doubling of capacity in the future (e.g. foundations for a 'twin' press are already in place). For SACMI, this is a great result, achieved, what's more, on a strategically vital Russian market that has, since 2017, seen a return to growth and generated numerous key orders.
