Hi-tech refractories: Sacmi strengthens its ties with India
Sacmi to supply a PHR 550 to Carborundum Universal Limited, India
A new generation fully automatic hydraulic press for special refractories is going to be installed at Ranipet (Tamil Nadu State - India) where Carborundum Universal Limited (CUMI) has a plant dedicated to refractory products. CUMI is a leading player in making advanced ceramics and belongs to Murugappa Group, one of India’s biggest business conglomerates with more than 3.5 billion USD annual turnover and 32.000 employees.

The Sacmi 550 ton press combines high production speed and incredible flexibility to the traditional distinctive features that make SACMI hydraulic presses successful worldwide: from size change in less than an hour, to the control system that guarantees products quality and constancy, to the auto-diagnostics, that give absolute efficiency.

The partnership with SACMI will then ensure CUMI to confidently meet the increasing market demands for sophisticated refractory products in high volumes.

CUMI’s know-how for high quality refractories in special shapes will in fact be perfectly supported by the PHR550 press equipped with a fully controlled lower core rod and floating table technology.
With a filling height up to 800mm, in fact, the importance of uniform distribution of the density throughout the thickness of the piece becomes fundamental in order to prevent «weak spots» in the pieces. The press’ floating table guarantees total uniformity and independent hydraulic circuits that ensure the maximum flexibility of adjustment, with the ability to compensate for possible variations in the blend from one cycle to another.
CUMI’s latest investment decision has, then, reinforced an already solid industrial partnership that began some years ago. CUMI’s spray driers, continuous grinding mills and presses for advanced ceramics of the PH series are, in fact, also Made in Sacmi.
