Highly energy-efficient sanitaryware kilns from Riedhammer

From heat recovery design features to innovative Reko burners: ground-breaking solutions that ensure energy savings, lower emissions and outstanding product quality

Rising energy costs and increasingly stringent environmental regulations are driving sanitaryware manufacturers to seek out new solutions to reduce and optimise energy consumption. This is particularly true in energy-hungry processes such as firing, where initial investment levels are high, as are the savings to be had by installing energy-efficient solutions.

A high-grade response to this need comes from Riedhammer, the world-leading Sacmi Group company that designs and builds kilns and dryers for the manufacture of ceramic sanitaryware. Riedhammer-developed solutions go by the name of EEE (energy-efficient management) and EMS (energy management system, which includes the latest-generation, high-efficiency Reko burners); they also include integrated process control software plus heat recovery, cogeneration and re-utilisation systems.

Thanks to cutting edge design solutions, the Riedhammer sanitaryware kiln/dryer range is characterized by significantly reduced carbon dioxide emissions, an advantage combined not just with lower gas consumption but also, and more importantly, with better finished product quality thanks to improved heat distribution within the firing chamber. The latest additions to the range focus on the benefits of cogeneration: carefully combined use of gas and electricity, in fact, makes it possible to optimize and reduce fuel consumption and, again, make firing processes more efficient in terms of final product quality. Moreover, it is also possible to use excess heat from the kiln to optimise other stages of the production process.

The result - thanks also to special software and systems that ensure real-time control of kiln performance – is an effective response to the sanitaryware industry’s need to make firing investments that significantly reduce both energy consumption and atmospheric emissions; in this regard the REKO range of burners, alongside heat recovery and re-utilisation systems, now set the international industry standard. More specifically, pre-heating of air and gas in the combustion chamber - a distinctive feature of Riedhammer-developed systems - allows manufacturers to boost firing process flexibility and efficiency while achieving outstanding finished product quality.
