IGV SACMI AUTOMATION automatic shuttle for Coopcostruttori

New automatic handling system with intelligent guidance

Agreements to supply COOPCOSTRUTTORI (the Filo d’Argenta plant) with an automatic pallet handling system have now been concluded. Consequently, their SACMI MASTER sorting and palletizing department will soon be completed by instalment of an automatic shuttle featuring an “intelligent” guidance system. The order consists of one IGV SACMI AUTOMATION pallet handling shuttle, with an inertial odometric navigation system able to process signals emitted by the turning of the vehicle’s wheels and other further signals emitted by a gyroscope The result is a control system that requires no under-floor wires, optical guidance equipment, magnetic rails or on-wall reflectors and allows materials to be moved at speeds of up 1.4 m/sec. All that is required is on-floor application of passive magnets every 8-10 metres to keep the shuttle within a certain distance of optimum position (the exact spacing of these magnets depends on floor type and the nature of the route taken by the shuttle). The changes that need to be made to the work area are, then, minimal and the shuttle can easily be re-routed, thus providing excellent flexibility. To round off the order an automatic pallet labelling system (pallet card) will also be supplied. At the same time a database containing comprehensive information on the material exiting the palletizer will also be set up. The order is expected to be delivered at the end of this year.
