A new mold overhauling company joins the Sacmi Group

Twenty-three workers, an investment in excess of ITL 2 billion and a huge market requiring skilled services: 28th March 2001 saw the inauguration of Molds & Dies Indonesia, a specialized mold and accessory overhauling center serving the ceramic industry. The baptism of this latest addition to the Sacmi Group was attended by the most important Indonesian managers and even the “owners”, the country’s investors who rarely put in a public appearance. Their presence at the opening of the plant was interpreted by Sacmi as a sign of special esteem and trust: an important element, as Sacmi has, in turn, decided to put its trust in both this market and the recovery of Far Eastern economies in general. “We worked on the opening of this company for about a year”, explains the manager, Gianni Alfani, “and that hard work is now beginning to pay off. The structure is now about 80% complete and we should be up to speed by the end of the year. Our task is to overhaul the male and female punches on tile molds which, after some 300 thousand cycles, show distinct signs of wear”. This is an essential step in a country which is the fifth or sixth largest tile producer in the world. Molds&Dies aims to serve the Indonesian market, but will also be providing assistance to surrounding zones such as Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
