New trends in the Heavy Clay industry

Open Day at Sacmi and inauguration of new sector-specific laboratory

A day dedicated to understanding more about the latest developments in the Heavy Clay sector, with informative talks from industry experts. Yet also a great opportunity to visit the all-new laboratory set up by Sacmi to boost research into new technological solutions for the heavy clay industry.

This, then, is the basis for the first edition of the “New trends in the Heavy Clay sector” open day, to be held at Sacmi Imola on 26th September concurrently with the Tecnargilla trade fair. In the morning there will be guided visits to the Sacmi plant, with a strong focus on the new heavy clay technological lab: this features up-to-the-minute equipment, such as a flat extrusion line with relative dryer and roller kiln for rapid processes, a structural ceramic extrusion line, complete with static dryer and kiln using a conventional process, plus a line for the plastic pressing of roof tiles. Technological innovations that will all, in fact, be on display at Tecnargilla, in the special Claytech section (halls A5-C5): a series of technologies conceived expressly for the brick and roof tile industry and designed by Sacmi to combine production efficiency with optimised energy consumption (more specifically, at the Rimini-held fair Sacmi will be presenting innovative roof tile production solutions, from driers to roller kilns with H-supports).

In the afternoon talks will be given by key industry players, starting with Heimo Scheuch, managing director of Wienerberger and President of TBE (the European Association of brick and roof tile producers), and Lorenzo Bellicini, chairman and managing director of Cresme (the economic, sociological and market research institute); they’ll be analysing key trends in the construction market in both Italy and Europe. Following them will be Aleksej Vjacheslavovich Gavrilov, managing director of LSR St Petersburg, one of the biggest brick makers in the Russian Federation. Afterwards there will be a careful appraisal of the main challenge facing the heavy clay sector, that of new materials and construction techniques for “zero impact” buildings: illustrating the theme will be Ulrich Klammsteiner, technical director of Casa Clima, an Italian specialist in the construction and certification of low-energy buildings. To bring the Open Day to a close Luis Carlos Barbosa Lima, President of the Brazilian Ceramic Industry Association, will illustrate key technological innovations regarding all the alternative fuels, such as biomass, already used extensively by the Brazilian heavy clay industry.
