SinterMet LLC puts its trust in Sacmi Powder Metal Division

SinterMet LLC, a leader in the research, development and manufacture of tungsten carbide rolls for bar and rod mills, has entrusted Sacmi with a production technology and process innovation project.
Part of Hitachi Metals Ltd, Japan, a group dealing with specialty materials (in its turn belonging to the group of Hitachi Ltd., one of the largest Japanese Corporations), this US based company aims to strengthen, with this project, the excellent results accomplished in recent years and consolidate its technological achievements.

A 1000 ton hydraulic press of the PHR range together with a robotic cell for parts handling is being installed now at SinterMet’s facility in Kittaning, Pennsylvania.

Tungsten carbide pressing in an application requiring very high thickness precision was a new challenge for Sacmi’s technical team, which had to specially design a PHR1000, a press widely used for refractories and advanced ceramics products, making use of the know-how acquired in the production of the MPH press range for traditional automotive powder metal parts.
The Sacmi 1000 ton press combines production speed and incredible flexibility to the traditional distinctive features that make Sacmi hydraulic presses successful worldwide: from size change in less than an hour, to the control system that guarantees products quality and constancy, to the auto-diagnostics that ensure absolute efficiency.
The robotized cell, manufactured by Gaiotto Automation, a Company of Sacmi Group specialized in industrial automation, will grant SinterMet high precision in safely handling of fragile parts.

Thanks to a great partnership and close collaboration with SinterMet’s technical team, the pre- acceptance test of the new line was completed successfully this last October at Sacmi’s headquarters in Imola, Italy.
