Optical quality control of spray-dried powders with the GMS 100

Joint research by Sacmi and the Ancona Polytechnic has produced an inno-vative measuring system

A new, innovative measuring instrument has resulted in improved spray-dried powder quality control procedures. This is the GMS 100, which reliably measures and records the particle size distribution of powders exiting the spray drier.

The result of a joint research project carried out by Sacmi and the Ancona Polytechnic, it uses CAIA (Computer-Aided Image Analysis) technology.
After withdrawing the powder from the line automatically, laying it out in a manner suitable for control and acquiring a sufficient number of images via a high-resolution digital camera, the GMS unit applies a sophisticated algorithm to give accurate particle size distribution analysis of the sample in question.
